Southern Creativity: Wedding Wreaths

For my first official "craft" post, I decided that I would post instructions on how I made some wreaths for a friend's wedding. She found a picture in a magazine of some unique, beautiful wreaths, but the florist was going to charge her an arm and a leg. After a fun trip to Micheals Craft Store, we were able to get all the supplies at a good deal and I made the wreaths for about $15.00/piece. A far cry from the $50 per wreath that the florist was going to charge! These wreaths were easy to make and looked every bit professionally made. Below I have typed a list of materials and instructions that are easy to follow for you to use!

Materials:

1 grape-vine wreath
2 bunches of green floral leaves
1 roll of fishing wire
1 wooden letter
1 small containter of matte white paint
1 hot glue gun and glue sticks
1/2 yard black satin fabric
1 can spray glue
1 large piece of cardboard
1 pair scissors
1 pencil
1 roll satin ribbon

1. On the cardboard, trace a large circle with the penicil (I used the bottom of a large paint can to trace my circle).
2. Cut satin fabric to fit circle-leave enough fabric around edges so that you can smooth it over to the backside to cover raw edges. Spray cardboard with spray glue and place satin on cardboard, removing any wrinkles that appear. Fold satin over edges of cardboard and glue to back.
3. Paint wooden letter with white paint, allow plenty of time to dry.
4. Once wooden letter is dry, affix letter to black satin cardboard circle using hot glue gun. Allow plenty of time to dry.
5. While other parts are drying, tear apart green floral bunches so that stems are long enouch to insert into wreath. Arrange to your liking. Using a small amount of glue from hot glue gun, affix in place.
6. Next cut fishing wire to lenght desired (allow enough so that satin circle hangs in approx. middle of wreath). Double the fishing wire and hot glue back of wire to back of cardboard circle. Tie rest of wire to wreath to affix circle to wreath.
7. Cut satin ribbon to length desired for hanging. Drape around top of wreath.
7. Allow plenty of time to dry and Wa-La! You are done!
